Abstract: Education is the basic right of every child as it is the prime factor responsible for the overall development of a child. The development of any nation depends on its educational system and it is proved that education is the key to human progress and social change. Education is a powerful tool for the empowerment of an individual. It helps in developing confidence in individual and community about their own capacities, inherent strengths to shape their lives and thus enhance the inner strength-intellectual, political, social and economic. Education has been recognised as a major tool working against oppression, exclusion and discrimination. Education has been regarded as a significant instrument for changing women’s subjugated position in society. It not only develops the personality and capabilities of individuals, but also qualifies them to fulfil certain economic political and cultural functions and thereby improves their socio-economic status. A direct expectation from educational development in a society is the reduction of inequality among individuals.
